Beach Elementary Packs Up

The school is moving to Emeryville for a year while the building undergoes seismic retrofits and modernization.

The new was finished last summer, the overhaul of is almost done, and now it's turn to empty out and make way for seismic updates and modernization. A construction fence is going up around the school Friday.

The building in Emeryville that has served as "Wildwood West" this year will become "Beach By The Bay" for 2011-2012. So as Wildwood materials are being moved out, the contents of Beach are being trucked in.

Pete Palmer, the construction manager for Piedmont Unified, says things are running "silky smooth" with the Beach move. Movers, district maintenance workers and Principal Julie Valdez were all on site Thursday to oversee the process.
