PHS Named Among America's Best High Schools

Newsweek ranked Piedmont High School No. 83 on its top 500 list.

More than one last week noted how lucky the members of the class of 2011 were to have attended Piedmont High School. An exclamation point was added to that sentiment this week as Newsweek recognized PHS as one of the best public high schools in the nation.

The magazine compiled its top 500 list for 2011 based on six weighted criteria: graduation rate (25%), college matriculation rate (25%), AP tests taken per graduate (25%), average SAT/ACT scores (10%), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10%), and AP courses offered (5%).

PHS has a 100 percent graduation rate and 95 percent of graduates go on to college, according to data from the 2009-2010 academic year that the school provided in response to Newsweek's survey. Students took 2.2 AP tests and scored 1902 on the SAT on average in 2009-2010.
