Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, a Piedmont resident, will be inducted as a U.S District Court judge for the Northern District of California  in a ceremony in San Francisco Thursday afternoon.

She is the first Latina to be confirmed to the Bay Area Federal bench. 

Gonzalez Rogers was recommended by Sen. Dianne Feinstein and nominated by President Barack Obama last year. Her appointment has been confirmed by the U.s. Senate.

Gonzalez Rogers, 46, was appointed to Superior Court by Gov. Arnold Schwarzennegger in 2008. Before that, she served Alameda County as a pro tem judge from 2007 to 2008, and as a member of the civil grand jury from 2005 to 2007, serving as foreperson in her second year there. 

The judge started her legal career as a litigator in private practice at Cooley Goodward in San Francisco, where she worked from 1991 to 2003.  She received her law degree from the University of Texas in 1991 and her bachelor's degree from Princeton University in 1987, graduating cum laude.
