Anian Tunney Piedmont CA Real Estate Agent Broker Comments on Generational Trend Study

Anian Tunney Piedmont CA real estate agent broker remarks on National Association of Realtors® (NAR) study of what the generations are doing in the real estate market.

Early this month, the NAR released their 2014 NAR Home Buyer and Seller Generational Trends study (1). “Basically, the study breaks down every aspect of a real estate transaction by age,” explained Real Estate Agent Broker Anian Tunney of Piedmont, CA. When Tunney says “every aspect,” she really means it. The study has age break downs for up-sizing, down-sizing, first time home buyers, distance moved, previous residence information, reason for move, financing type, and the source of the down payment – just to name a few.

“Overall, the study’s results are not too surprising. Younger people are more often moving out on their own, older people are down-sizing, and the people in the middle are adjusting to life changes – such as job relocations or additions to the family. The good news is that people view real estate as a good investment,” said Tunney of the report. The only negative that Tunney commented on is the fact that the average age of first time home buyers is increasing – largely due to student loans and credit card debt. An open house on Sunday in Piedmont is 99 Sea View Avenue, listed at $2,999,000, a mid-century all level home.

Tunney focuses on the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area – specifically Piedmont and the surrounding Oakland and Berkeley hills. This area tends to cater to that group “in the middle” – namely, buyers moving up and sellers that are either relocating or down-sizing. One such home for sale in Oakland is 1450 Fernwood Drive, offered at $1,250,000.
