Eighth Graders Invited to Get Involved with the Piedmont Community Service Crew

By Vanessa Li
The Piedmont Community Service Crew, essential in advocating civil service amongst students at Piedmont High for 9 years, is now inviting civic-minded eighth graders who are ready to jump-start their involvement in the larger community to learn more about the Crew. Eighth graders become eligibleto join PCSC as soon as they graduate from middle school. They will provide a fresh perspective and enthusiasm to the Crew, and they will benefit as they enter PHS as freshmen this coming fall throughtheir association with the Crew leadership and general membership. PCSC is one of Piedmont Council, BSA’s units within the coed Venturing program which fosters youth leadership, independence, personal growth and responsibility. The Crew’s success is evidenced by its growth to over 125 members, a sound youth leadership team, a stellar community reputation, and a wide range of service events every weekend and crew-sponsored major projects a few times each year.
Prospective eighth graders and parents seeking to learn more about the Community Service Crew are invited to attend an informational Open House on May 1, 7p-8p at the Scout Room located next to the Kettlewell room in the basement of the Piedmont Community Church. The Crew’s youth leaders will speak about Crew activities & projects, about member benefits, and how the Crew operates and its goals. (If you would like to attend the open house, RSVP to contacts below).
Additionally, 8th graders, along with a parent, may accompany current Crew members in an upcoming mural painting project at the Fred Finch Youth Center on May 11 from 9am to 3pm.This will be a fantastic opportunity for the younger non-members to acquaint themselves with seasoned crew members as they get a hands-on feel for the Crew’s teamwork and leadership-based community. To sign up for this event, students simply have to inform the Crew of their interest at pcservicecrew@gmail.com .
The Crew welcomes members of all ages (14-21) and especially encourages those with leadership qualities and aspirations to tap into leadership roles and truly help the Crew move forward. For more information, visit the PCSC website at www.pcservicecrew.org or contact our crew advisor Ken Li at Ken.i.Li@sbcglobal.net . The Crew looks forward to hearing from you!
