The Oakland Strokes Women's Varsity 8+ boat has been nominated for the 2012 Crew of the Year. [The crew is full of Piedmonters] Voting is currently taking place at www.row2k.com, and our local high school aged girls are up against very prominent national and international boats. Namely, the undefeated University of Washington men, NCAA National Champion University of Virginia women, and the USA Women's Olympic 8+ that won the gold medal in London. The Oakland Strokes WV8+ girls have received an incredible amount of national press for their victories (Head of the Charles in Boston, San Diego Crew Classic, U.S. Rowing National Championship, and Royal Canadian Henley Regatta) and should they win the 2012 Crew of the Year, it would provide well deserved national recognition.
