First Major Survey for Oakland Artist Bella Feldman Opens at Richmond Art Center

Three exhibitions open at the Richmond Art Center this Saturday, September 14. An opening reception with the artists will be held on Saturday, September 21 from 4 – 6pm.

Bella: A 50-year survey of the work of Bella Feldman
The first major survey of Oakland artist Bella Feldman's 50-year career is a perfect fit for the Richmond Art Center, where Feldman’s work was exhibited in 1955, 1957 and 1959. The exhibition will showcase Feldman’s impressive steel and blown glass sculptures along with her smaller series War Toys and Flasks of Fiction, mixed-media collages and her latest explorations in painting across two galleries and a sculpture courtyard.
This survey is also the first time that these various bodies of work have be shown together — a demonstration of her major contributions to the legacy of Bay Area art. Feldman is a pioneer of women sculptors and a master of fusing glass and steel. Her work is playful, political and poetic. Feldman's work has shown internationally since 1976 and is in the collections of the de Young Museum, UC Berkeley Art Museum and Oakland Museum of CA. She was also a professor of sculpture at CCA for 36 years.

Formed and Fired: Clay & Glass
A show of the Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California juried by accomplished ceramicists Bill Abright and Claudia Tarantino. The selected artists — Mimi Abers, Beverly Crist, Bill Heiderich, Kathy Pallie, Margaret Realica, Virginia Rigney, Gail Rushmore and Melissa Woodburn — demonstrate the diverse work being created in both clay and glass.
