Alternative Gift Market Sundays at Piedmont Community Church

Alternative gifts help improve the lives of people in the East Bay and around the world.

From a Piedmont Community Church announcement:

Each holiday season for the past ten years, Piedmont Community Church’s Alternative Gift Market has truly made a difference. In that time, it has raised over $500,000 for local and global charities.

On Sundays, Dec. 9 and 16, the Market is once again open for business.

The AGM lets participants honor a family member, friend or colleague by purchasing a gift that truly keeps on giving, helping to lift the lives of people in the East Bay and in places around the world.

For example, for the price of an iPod, a well can be constructed in Malawi that brings clean drinking water to a village of 300. The cost of dinner and a movie is about what it takes to provide eye surgery for a child in India. What it takes to buy a cup of coffee at Peet's can vaccinate three children in Honduras.

Dr. Norman Cousins wrote that, “Inevitably, an individual is measured by his or her largest concerns.”

Reflecting on that quote, Piedmont Church’s Pastor, Dr. William McNabb says, “The AGM gives us the opportunity to care for more than just our family and friends at Christmas. We can bring life-giving aid to people who are in desperate need.”

The Alternative Gift Market takes place each Sunday morning after the 9 and 10:30 a.m. worship services at PCC, located at 400 Highland Ave.

Catalogs are available at the church, or can be picked up at various local businesses or downloaded from PCC’s website: www.piedmontchurch.org. Orders can be made in person or by mail.
