A downed wire caused a power outage affecting nearly 5,800 PG&E customers in Oakland this afternoon (Friday), a utility spokeswoman said.

The outage was reported at 1:50 p.m. near MacArthur Boulevard and Adams Street and initially affected 5,774 customers, PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said.

Crews were able within nine minutes to narrow the outage to 226 customers and hope to have power fully restored in the area by the late afternoon, Sarkissian said.

The outage was caused by a third-party construction crew that caused a wire to fall, according to Sarkissian.

No one was injured in the incident, which remains under investigation, she said.
