How Castro Valley School Ratings Influence Home Prices

The real estate search engine Zillow rates local schools.

Conventional wisdom says good public schools boost home values. The reverse is also true. The Zillow real estate search engine rated some local schools.

See how Castro Valley schools stack up according to Zillow.

Now check out the median price of $456,400 (check out the graph for the price trend but be prepared for a stomach-dropping plunge.)

Now take a gander at Pleasanton's school ratings, according to Zillow's calculations.

And, no surprise, Pleasanton enjoys a median home price of $676,900 (see the trend here). Not in particular how much more steeply prices have climbed back.

When a city cares more about tearing up streets instead of the schools and decent businesses then that's what happens property values aren't that great. There really is no comparison with houses, crime and money spent on the schools. Just the school buildings alone out there are amazing

It's all relative, Jessica. Castro Valley compares favorably to San Leandro, for instance.

True but this article was comparing to Pleasanton

A more accurate comparison in my opinion, would be the single family homes between Castro Valley BLVD and I580, with those between I580 and Grove Way. Little differentiates the two areas except the school districts. Both areas are considered Castro Valley, both areas have homes of approximately the same age and size.
