Piedmont Mothers to Organize a Club (100 years ago)

Turn to page two of the "San Francisco Call" (Volume 109, No.133). Wedged between an article about the Triangle Waist Factory fire and an advertisement for Easter Suits ($15-$25) is a short paragraph announcing the foundation of the Piedmont Mothers’ Club.

It would be interesting to know what the 75 mothers who signed the charter talked about at that first meeting at Piedmont School on Bonita Avenue. It’s a safe bet they worried about the education of their children and traded the most current theories on child-rearing. They probably thought their kids were coddled, spent too much time indoors, and ate unhealthy food.
