What's Open, What's Closed for MLK Jr. Day

Here's a brief run-down of what's open and closed in and near Piedmont on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 21, a national holiday.

The late civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. was born Jan. 15, 1929, and his birthday is celebrated as a national holiday on the third Monday in January, which this year is Jan. 21.

Here's a list of what's open and closed in and near Piedmont on Monday. 

Piedmont City Hall: Closed.

Piedmont public schools: Closed.

Oakland Public Library: Closed. Branch libraries will also be closed Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Parking: Parking meter holiday in Oakland — free parking.

BART will operate on a Saturday schedule.

Garbage, green waste and recycling service: Curbside collection of recycling, green waste and garbage will occur as normally scheduled. However, Richmond Sanitary Service office will be closed.

Department of Motor Vehicles and other state of California offices, federal offices: Closed.

Banks: Most banks will be closed. 

Stores, businesses: Varies, though many will be open.
