Benefit Concert at 'Jazz at the Chimes'

Kenny Washington will headline a concert at the Chapel of the Chimes on Piedmont Avenue Sept 16. Proceeds will benefit the Jazzschool.

Jazz at the Chimes' fifth concert of the season will feature vocalist Kenny Washington backed by the Michael O’Neill Quintet, Sunday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Ave., Oakland.

According to a press release on the concert, Washington is "a virtuosic vocalist equally skilled at singing standards, gospel and blues [who] thrills audiences with soulful interpretations and rapid-fire scatting. His frequent, close collaboration with saxophonist Michael O’Neill (captured on the acclaimed CDs The Long and Short of It and Still Dancing) continues in this special event."

The quintet includes O’Neill on saxophone, Erik Jekabson on trumpet, Ben Stolorow on piano, Dan Feiszli on bass and Lorca Hart on drums.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Jazzschool, a non-profit music conservatory where students, artists and audiences can enjoy jazz and related styles of music from throughout the world. 

The concert will be followed by a reception where concertgoers can meet the artists and purchase CDs. Free parking is available.
