The Montclair Fine Arts and Crafts Fall Fest returns to Oakland Saturday, October 13 from 10 a.m. to 6p.m. and Sunday, October 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sponsored by the Montclair Village Association, this free event showcases works from more than 70 artists and crafters who will line the streets of the Montclair Business District displaying a wide array of handcrafted works including garments, sculptures, photography, watercolor and oil paintings, jewelry, ceramics and more.
New to this year’s event is a special reception featuring the work of Oakland-based artists Enrico Antiporda, Karen LeGault and Barbara Lee on Saturday from 6 pm to 8 pm at Metro Montclair (2058 Mountain Blvd.) and TOUCH Salon and Gallery (2068 Antioch Court). Each of the artists’ work will be on display at both locations from September 24 through October 26. A quartet from the Athenian School in Danville will also perform during the reception. Grille One Carvery at 2064 Antioch Court will host the evening’s musical entertainment. The student group performs together frequently at events and plays a variety of Jazz, Blues, Rock, and Latin standards.
Among the featured artists participating in this year’s event, Antiporda creates vivid oil paintings including Caribbean and Asian Pacific landscapes, nudes and still life. His newest paintings were inspired by French Fauve artists and can be described as a merging of pop art and folk art. “Art is an emotional outlet for me and if I can make someone smile when viewing my art, then I have accomplished what I have set out to do,” said Antiporda.

Lee is a retired educator who has been doing photography for over 40 years, with a particular interest in travel, nature and landscape photography. “I look for intimate landscapes with strong pattern and texture,” says Barbara. “People often say my photos look like paintings.”
The paintings of LeGault are set apart by a deceptive simplicity and a refined traditional Asian technique and aesthetic. Deeply rooted in Western realism and Taoist philosophy, Karen’s lush, distilled compositions express beauty, fragrance, rhythm and form through a magical palette where spirit is reflected through matter.

Other artists participating in the Montclair Fine Arts and Crafts Fall Fest include Christopher Roscoe from Castro Valley showing his hand-blown glass creations consisting of unique marbles colorful art glass vases, paper weights, bowls, ornaments and sculptures; and Andrea Bragg of Richmond who creates original designs as block prints, which are screen printed onto hand dyed T-shirts and other apparel.
The Montclair Fine Arts and Crafts Fall Fest takes place on Mountain Boulevard at LaSalle, off highway 13, between Park Boulevard and Thornhill Drive and is sponsored by the Montclair Village Association with support from the Oakland Tribune.
