Imagine the Lands of Leprechauns and Centaurs

A St. Patrick's Day art workshop and a musical adaptation of the Chronicles of Narnia are among the fun activities to do with your family this week.

Every Wednesday, Piedmont Patch highlights five great things to do with your kids in town, or very close by. Here are this week's picks:


  • Where/When:
    UC Botanical Garden, 200 Centennial Dr, Berkeley. Every second Wednesday, 11-11:45 a.m.
    Why Go: If you've been yearning for a visit, but unsure of bringing your young kids, here is an opportunity to take a stroll through the garden organized by a docent and mom especially for little ones.
    Pricing: $9 adults; children under 5 are free


  • Where/When:
    's Multi-Purpose Room, 323 Highland Ave, Piedmont. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (when campus is open)
    Why Go: Celebrate National Arts Education Month by viewing an exhibit of art by kids in grades 1-3 in all three elementary schools in Piedmont organized by P.A.I.N.T.S. Come with your little one to get them inspired to make their own art.

  • Where/When:
    , 1687 Mountain Blvd, Oakland. Thursdays, 10:15-10:45 a.m.
    Why Go: Stop by the Montclair Branch Library for a short storytime with your toddler, browse books afterwards and treat yourself to a stroll in Montclair Village afterwards.
    Pricing: Free

    • Where/When:
      Julia Morgan Center for the Arts, 2640 College Ave, Berkeley. Opening day Saturday, March 12, shows at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
      Why Go: You'll be transported through the magical cupboard to a land of mythical creatures in this musical adaptation of C.S. Lewis's famous fantasy.
      Pricing: $33 adults; $30 seniors; $22 kids; $15 tots (5 and younger)

    • Where/When:
      Museum of Children's Art (MOCHA), 538 9th St, Oakland. Saturday-Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.
      Why Go: If you haven't been able to make it to MOCHA's weekday drop-in art sessions, you might be glad to know that they also hold them on weekends, and these are not limited to 6 years old! Stop by with your kids of any age and create something new, and green, for St. Patrick's Day.
      Pricing: $8 per child; free for members
