Local poet David Meltzer is among the five nominees in the poetry category for the 2012 Northern California Book Awards. He is nominated for When I Was a Poet.
Meltzer, 75, is considered one of the leading poets of the Beat Generation. He is the author of three novels and numerous collections of poetry. He married fellow poet Julie Rogers last year.
