Oakland Jazz Choir at the Chimes Sunday

Meet the jazz choir members and enjoy refreshments at a reception following the 2 p.m. concert.

Jazz at the Chimes' fourth concert of the new season will feature The Oakland Jazz Choir on Sunday, July 15, at 2 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland.

Artistic Director Katie Koeplin will lead the 13-member group in unique jazz arrangements of songs ranging from jazz standards to bebop to Latin to soul and pop. A list of the proposed repertoire includes composers such as George & Ira Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Hoagy Carmichael, Pat Metheny, Bobby McFerrin, Bobby Caldwell and Billy Joel. “Our goal is to be eclectic and to present a diversity of musical styles,” said Koeplin.

The Oakland Jazz Choir (OJC) is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to the education, preservation and perpetuation of vocal jazz, and focuses on bringing together professional and community members. This year marks the choir’s 20th anniversary.

The concert will be followed by a reception where the public can meet the group and purchase CDs. Refreshments and baked goods provided by local merchants and .

Tickets are $15 general; $10 seniors (60+) and students, for the concert and reception. Purchase tickets at the door. Cash only. Ticket sales begin at 12:30 p.m.; doors open 1:30 p.m. Limited seating. Free parking.

Jazz at the Chimes is a concert series produced by Mary D’Orazi and sponsored by Chapel of the Chimes featuring Bay Area talent. Concerts are held at the Chapel of the Chimes, a designated City of Oakland Landmark designed by Julia Morgan.
