Summer Cinema: Outdoor Movies in Piedmont and Nearby

Lots of choices, some for families with younger children, some for teens and adults. It's BYOB — bring your own blanket (or chairs) — for most of these events.

It's almost summer, and movies are moving outdoors. Some are family-friendly, some best for adults and teens. Free, unless otherwise noted. Here are some options in Piedmont and nearby:

Red Oak Outdoor Movies Nights in Montclair. Third Saturday of the month, June through September: June 15, July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 21. "Doors" open at 7:30 p.m., movie begins at 8. In the parking lot at Red Oak Realty's Montclair office, 6450 Moraga Ave. Popcorn, previews and feature film, projected onto outdoor wall of office. Bring blankets or lawn chairs. Temescal Street Cinema. This series is aimed mainly at adults and features work by Bay Area film and video artists. Thursday evenings, June 13, June 20, June 27, July 11, July 18. 49th Street just east of Telegraph Avenue, near Telegraph Alley. Filmed are projected onto the side of the Bank of the West building at 4900 Telegraph Ave. Films begin at 8:45 p.m. Limited seating, free popcorn. Opens June 13 with WONDER WOMEN! Bites Off Broadway. A family-friendly film is part of the entertainment at this weekly food truck round-up in front of Studio One, 365 - 45th St., Oakland (between Broadway and Lawton. Friday evenings through Oct. 11. Movie screens at dusk; the title is listed on the Bites Off Broadway Facebook page a day or two in advance. Bring a blanket. Info: Bites Off Broadway Facebook page.

Waterfront Flicks at Jack London Square. On the Market Lawn. Thursday evenings at dusk, June 13, July 1, June 27, July 25, Aug. 8 and Aug. 22. Starlight Movies in the Park, Alameda. Three Fridays: June 21 and July 26 at the multipurpose field at Alameda Point, Sept. 13 at Leydecker Park on Bay Farm Island. Pre-show games and activities for kids begin at 6:30 p.m., with the film starting at about 8:15 p.m. Snacks and food available to buy. Bring chairs or blankets. Starts off Jue 21 with The Lorax.
