Take Yourself Out to the Ballpark or the Bling Fling

Opening day for softball and baseball and a jewelry trunk show are on this week's agenda.

Whether you're a sports fan, a shopaholic, an epicure, or a creative type, there are plenty of reasons to get out this weekend:


  • Where/When:
    , 6120 La Salle Ave,, Oakland. Thursday, 7 p.m.

  • Where/When:
    Piedmont Yarn & Apparel, 4171 Piedmont Ave., Oakland. Wednesdays and Fridays, 3-7 p.m.
    Why Go: Just because it's spring, you don't have to stop knitting. Keep up with that big project or start a new little one in this great bi-weekly group.
    Pricing: Free


  • Where/When:
    , Piedmont. Saturday, 8:15-9 a.m.
    Why Go: Baseball and softball players, moms, dads, grandparents and everyone in between are invited to attend the opening day ceremonies. Each team will be introduced, and this is a great time for photos before those uniforms start seeing some action this spring season.
    Pricing: Free


  • Where/When:
    Farmstead Cheeses and Wines, 6218 La Salle Ave., Oakland. Saturdays, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
    Why Go: The husband and wife who own Farmstead have an easy-going attitude toward their wines and cheeses. Their motto is “Relax, it's just food.” So, relax and taste something new this Saturday evening in Montclair.
    Pricing: $3 per flight, waived if you purchase wine or are a member of one of their wine clubs


  • Where/When:
    1092 Park Ln., Piedmont. Sunday, 1-6 p.m., and Monday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Why Go: Get decked out in some new “bling” in time for spring and support Spring Fling event for Piedmont Schools while you're at it. A trunk show  featuring jewelry from Stella and Dot.
    Pricing: Free to attend; half of the selection is priced at $50 or less
