Story about the deadly BART shooting that sparked riots in the East Bay.


"Fruitvale Station" a movie by first-time film maker Ryan Coogler opens this weekend. The story revolves around Oscar Grant, a black man who was shot by a white BART policeman in 2009. 

The incident set off riots at the time.

A profile by Inside Bay Area describes Coogler as "a soft-spoken, deep-thinking 26-year old" native of Oakland who now lives in Richmond.

The film has won acclaim in artistic circles.
