Destino Restaurant to Open This Weekend

The newest restaurant by Gary Rizzo, owner of the late, lamented Somerset on College Avenue, is scheduled to open this weekend on Grand Avenue. Plus more Grand Lake area business news from the October "Splash Pad Newsletter."

Upscale Mexican food arrives in the Grand Lake area this weekend with the opening of Destino at 3909 Grand Ave. (next door to Camino), according to the October issue of the Splash Pad Newsletter.

Newsletter editor Ken Katz says owner Gary Rizzo (who owns Kwik Way on Lake Park Avenue and also owned the now-closed Somerset restaurant on College Avenue) confirmed the weekend opening in an email this week. Destino will serve authentic Mexican cuisine — from chili rellenos with green mole sauce to grilled baby squid with onion confit — along with killer martinis and artisanal cocktails, Katz says.
