Neighborhoods near Piedmont score high on walkability.

The city of Piedmont is car-dependent, but the nearby neighborhoods of Oakland are very walkable, according to an assessment by Walk Score. Piedmont Avenue even placed among 300 walker's paradises that earned 90 or more points out of a possible 100 in the survey of neighborhoods in 2,500 cities nationwide.

The "walk score" measures the walkability of an area based on the proximity of amenities including grocery stores, parks, banks, and schools. Piedmont Avenue's rating indicates daily errands there do not require a car. The placement of Montclair, Rockridge, Grand Lake, Lakeshore and Glenview in the very walkable category means most errands in those neighborhoods can be accomplished on foot.
