Foodie Alert: Author Dinner, Food Truck Fare

STreet fare to fancy fare, now through mid-October.

The Thursday night food truck pod by Splash Pad Park, across the street from the Grand Lake Theatre, is gone, according to a short note in the East Bay Express. "What the Fork" columnist Luke Tsai says the weekly event just never seemed to take off and closed down without fanfare.

If you have a hankering for food truck victuals, though, Bites Off Broadway is going strong on Friday nights through Oct. 12, 5:30 to 8:30, in front of Studio One, 365 - 45th St., Oakland. See the Sept. 25 line-up here. For Oakland residents, there's also a District 1 city council candidates' forum, 6:30-8 p.m.

Market Hall, 5655 College Ave., Oakland, will be grilling its annual Picnic in the Street Sunday, Oct. 7, as part of the Rockridge Out & About street festival, noon to 6 p.m. along College from Alcatraz Avenue to Manila Avenue. Cookbook exchange, live music, kids' activities and lots more all afternoon.
