Sprouts & Shutters: "Do It Yourself Food" Store Opens

Pollinate Farm & Garden is now selling supplies and offering instruction from its Fruitvale district shop

There's a new store that can help you grow a garden or raise some chickens.

Pollinate Farm & Garden opened its doors this past week at 2727 Fruitvale Ave. in Oakland.

The shop is owned by Yolanda Burrell and Birgitt Evans. They describe it as "a local general store with a twist."

They have supplies such as seeds, soils, tools and composting equipment as well as feed for chickens, rabbits and goats. They also carry beekeeping supplies.

Pollinate Farm & Garden also offers instruction for local residents who want to start or garden or have some small animals on their land.
