What Should Go Here?

What type of business would you like to see in the former home of Blockbuster Video on lower Piedmont Avenue?

Once an innovative source of inexpensive entertainment, video rental stores have fallen victim to Netflex et al. A recent casualty is the store at 3868 Piedmont Ave., Oakland (roughly across the street from ).

What would you like to see occupy this space, listed as 5,622 sq. ft. and leasing for $12,650 a month? What type of new business does Piedmont Avenue need most?

The Plant (Cafe Organic): http://www.theplantcafe.com/ - especially since it's right by a hospital facility.

How about a drug store which the video store displaced? Maybe even 24 hour business which once operated on Broadway at 19th!

That is a high rent for any business to be able to afford, I imagine it will be vacant for quite a while.

If you actually look at the Fresh Choice nutritional information, you'll find it isn't that healthy. Their sodium is off the charts and most items are high in calories compared to the portion size. :-( I would LOVE to see a healthy restaurant here though. I think it is a great idea!

The city should work with the owner of the building to subdivide the building so that the past doesn't repeat itself. If another large retailer goes in, and closes, the neighborhood will be back asking this same question. Subdivided into at least 6-7 units at about 730 sq ft each. Just a thought as it keeps the small merchant atmosphere in tack.
