It’s the time of year again, the time to buy our Christmas tree.
My dad, my sister, and I get out of the car, have a brief conversation with our neighbors who we run into, then walk into the Boy Scout tree lot.

I see a few of my friends and say hello, than walk over to the trees. To be honest, there weren’t that many trees. I would think that shopping three weeks before Christmas would give me a good selection of trees, but I guess I am wrong.
At first the lack of trees is worrisome to me because I want a Christmas tree NOW. Once the topic of purchasing a tree comes up, you just can’t get away from it; you have to buy a Christmas tree right at that moment or all holiday spirit seems to deteriorate into thin air.

I then look at the trees, run into my friend’s mom who I speak with for a little while, and have my friend help us pick out a tree.
On the way to having our tree netted, a younger Boy Scout helps us push the cart. A look of despair runs through his face as he realizes that his fingers are stuck INSIDE both ends of the pipe that was the top part of the cart that pushed the tree. Luckily I have another friend at the lot get his fingers out of the cart when I couldn’t figure out how to.
Buying a Christmas tree in Piedmont isn’t just about the tree, it’s about this moments leading up to and proceeding the purchase. It’s about freezing your hands in the cold, and getting your shoes dirty in the mud. It’s about talking to your old friends and meeting new ones.
Christmas is the best time of the year and it’s a time I hope never ends.
