EBAC Auxiliary Masquerade Ball to Feature Nationally Known Comedian, Brian Copeland

The East Bay Agency For Children (“EBAC”) Auxiliary’s 13th annual Masquerade Ball, to be held on Saturday, October 27, promises to be an evening full of sparkle. A Diamond Anniversary Celebration, as EBAC celebrates its 60th year providing vital services for children and families in our East Bay community, the Ball will feature well-known comedian Brian Copeland.

Brian Copeland is an actor, comedian, television and radio talk show host, and author who lives in the Bay Area. In 2004, he premiered in his first one-man show, Not a Genuine Black Man, in San Francisco. The show, an account of his experiences growing up in San Leandro in the 1970’s, was originally scheduled for a six-week run. It went on to run 25 months, becoming the longest-running one-man show in San Francisco history. In February 2012, Copeland opened his second solo show, The Waiting Period, to great critical acclaim. He has been the opening act for artists such as Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin and Ringo Starr.  Brian Copeland will be at the Ball all evening.

In addition to Copeland’s infusion of humor, guests will be treated to an elegant seated dinner catered by Barbara Llewellyn, one of California’s premier catering companies, and fine wines from the Keenan Winery. Keenan has distinguished itself as a maker of exceptional wines in limited varietals and quantity.  Seating will be limited. The event will also offer dancing, hosted bar and an auction.  The venue is a spectacular Piedmont estate. Terrific auction items include five nights in a New York City apartment on West 57th Street, a week in Mexico (with the winning bidder’s choice of destinations, Loreto, Cabo or Puerta Vallarta), one-week stays at two different French Villas, and two nights at the Park 55 Hotel in San Francisco.

This year, as has been true the last several years, the Masquerade Ball will not only support the Child Assault Prevention Training Center (“CAP”), but also the other 12 EBAC programs, including Circle of Care—Grief and Illness Support, Hawthorne Family Resource Center, Therapeutic Nursery School and the EBAC Probation Mental Health Services. For many years, a portion of the proceeds from the Masquerade Ball have been used to underwrite CAP training for students at Havens, Beach and Wildwood elementary schools. CAP has been offered in the Piedmont schools repeatedly over the past 25 years. Serving 21,000 children a year, EBAC is the largest provider of mental health services to children in Alameda County.
