Get Moving with Yoga and Bikes, Get Artistic with Hats

Kids can put down the game console and shake off that winter gloom with exercise for the body and for the mind. Oh, all right, there's a movie night thrown in there, too.

Every week, Piedmont Patch highlights five great things to do with your kids in town, or very close by. Here are this week's picks:

  • Where/When: Temple Beth Abraham, 327 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland. Wednesday and Thursday, 11:15 a.m. to noon.
    Why Go: This playgroup for kids 9 months to 3 years old is open to families of all faiths and gives your baby access to a room full of fun play equipment in a large matted space. 
    Pricing: $8 drop-in

  • Where/When:
    Piedmont Yoga Studio, 3966 Piedmont Ave., Oakland. Wednesdays, 4-5 p.m.
    Why Go: Kids ages 5-8 get their own yoga session with instructor Olga Stein. They will learn basic poses as well as breathing and meditation techniques. Registration is required, so check out the event for full details.
    Pricing: $16 drop in; $60 for four week session


  • Where/When:
    SadieDey's Cafe, 4210 Telegraph Ave., Oakland. Thursday, 6 p.m.
    Why Go: SadieDey's Cafe offers grown up favorites like salads and pot pies and kid favorites like mac 'n cheese. Thursday night is movie night at the cafe and with their Netflix account you'll help pick the streaming movie at the beginning of the night.
    Pricing: Adults and precrawlers, free; crawlers under 12, $6.95; siblings, $4.95; (add $2 on designated rainy days)

  • Where/When:
    (Multipurpose Room), 325 Highland Ave., Piedmont. Saturday, noon to 3 p.m.
    Why Go: Young artists will use their imaginations to make pirate, princess and Mad Hatter hats in this special workshop. If you haven't already, this is a great opportunity to check out the Havens Elementary School art show on display until April 8.
    Pricing: Free


  • Where/When:
    Berkeley Bike Station, 2208 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley. Sunday, 11 a.m. to noon.
    Why Go: If you've been wanting to take your babies, kids or teens biking with you, but are concerned for their safety, this workshop is for you! All the basic safety measures will be covered, and there's even discounted childcare for kids 2-6 years old across the street at Habitot Children's Museum.
    Pricing: Free workshop; childcare for kids ages 2-6, $5 at Habitot
