Get Out Piedmont!

It's Thursday, and you've got no idea what you'll do for the weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue. We've got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time.

  1. Where/When: Piedmont Avenue Branch Public Library, 160 41st Street, Oakland. Friday, 11 a.m.
    Why Go: The Unique Derique is an award winning clown who mixes in music and body rhythms along with his jokes.
    Price: Free.

    Berkeley Art Museum, Durant Avenue and College Avenue, Berkeley. Thursday - Sunday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
    Why Go: This is the first solo U.S. show of Stokholm artist and writer Emily Roydson. You can also see how Eva Hesse helped transform sculptural practice in the 1960's in a retrospective of her work.
    Price: Adults - $10. Seniors and non-UC students - $7.

    Piedmont Veterans Memorial Building, 401 Highland Avenue, Piedmont. 6 p.m. - 10 p.m.
    Why Go: Wildwood Elementary School dads keep it classic with all-you-can-eat Dungeness crab, lasagna, salad, and cocktails.
    Price: $50

    Lawrence Hall of Science Plaza, 1522 Summit Road, Berkeley. Saturday, 8 p.m. - 10 p.m.
    Why Go: Look through telescopes and learn to find constellations with the help of star maps and amateur astronomers who help organize this bi-monthly event.
    Price: Free. Be sure to dress warmly.


  • Where/When: Hearst Museum of Anthropology, Bancroft Way and College Avenue, Berkeley. Thursday - Sunday, 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    Why Go: With Egypt in the news, this is a great exhibit to see with the family. Mummification, amulets, portraits and other artifacts from Ancient Egyptian life are on display.
    Price: Free.
