Go on a Love Mission in the Year of the Rabbit

Pick up a gift for your sweetie, step into the kissing booth, and celebrate the Lunar New Year this weekend.

All the fun for kids and heart that you used to find in "Fun Within Five Miles" is now here in the new planner. This weekend's picks include craftworks, metalworks, and yo-yo works.

  • Where/When: Show Place Art Gallery, 1318 10th St, Berkeley. Friday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
    Why Go: Local Etsy.com craftspeople and artists will show off their work at this Berkeley gallery just in time for that last minute Valentine's Day gift shopping. You may not have made it, but somebody else did!
    Pricing: Free

  • Where/When:
    The Crucible Industrial Arts School, 1260 7th St, Oakland. Friday, 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
    Why Go: Aerial dancers, a kissing booth, hand-typed poems, a live DJ and of course, industrial art demonstrations in blacksmithing, jewelry, neon and enameling.
    Pricing: Free for member, $10 for non-members


  • Where/When:
    Chabot Space and Science Center, 10000 Skyline Blvd, Oakland. Saturday and Sunday, 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
    Why Go: Join Mars and Venus in this Valentine's Day celebration that includes h'ordeuvres, bubbly and and an all-access pass to Chabot.
    Pricing: $85 per couple.

    Pacific Film Archive Theater, 2575 Bancroft Way, Berkeley. Sunday, 2:30 p.m.
    Why Go: Several years ago, Berkeley School District innovated their lunch program. This film is about the process and the results of the changes. You can find out more about the director, Helen De Michiel, in this .

  • Where/When:
    Beach Elementary School Auditorium Friday, 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
    Why Go: The Piedmont Asian American Club and the Piedmont Language School are welcoming the Year of the Rabbit with flying yo-yos, flashing swords, and ukulele strumming.
