A Patch video on Friday showed at Friday's Arbor Day/ Earth Day tree planting.

Now we've uploaded more video to show a fuller range of the happenings Friday at Crocker Park. On one side of the park stood a podium framed by flags and a young oak tree waiting to be planted. On the other side gathered a group of protesters with hand-made signs, a bold word standing out in black among them: IRONY.

The City of Piedmont hosted a joint celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day Friday with the planting of a coast live oak. Meanwhile, protesters complained of 55 mature oaks due to be cut down to make way for , a multi-sport field in a narrow canyon.

Despite the differences of opinion and a small police presence, the day was peaceful. Children wielding small trowels added the final soil to irises surrounding the new tree, before running off to play chase around the park. In their own ceremony, Friends of Moraga Canyon protesters read aloud quotes about trees. So did city officials on the other side of the park.
