Piedmont Population Grew By 0.9 Percent Last Year

New state reports shows Piedmont's population is now close to 11,000

Piedmont's population increased by 0.9 percent last year.

Figures released by the state Department of Finance show Piedmont gained almost 100 residents, increasing its population to 10,889 as of Jan. 1.

Piedmont is the second smallest of Alameda County's 14 incorporated cities, behind only Emeryville's 10,269.

Oakland remains the largest city in the county with more than 399,000 residents.

The only city in Alameda County that experienced a decrease in population in 2012 was Albany, which dropped by 0.2 percent.

Dublin had the second highest growth rate in California with 6.8 percent.

Alameda County's population grew by 1.2 percent to 1,548,681.

California's population increased by 0.8 percent to 37,966,471.
