Piedmonter's Appointment to Federal Bench Confirmed

Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers will be filling the spot that opened up when Vaughn Walker retired from U.S. District Court.

Bay City News Service—The U.S. Senate today confirmed Piedmont resident and Alameda County Superior Court Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers to serve as a federal trial judge in Oakland.

Rogers, 46, was nominated by President Obama in May on the recommendation of Sen. Dianne Feinstein. She was approved by an 89-6 vote of the Senate.

Rogers will be the first Hispanic woman to serve on the U.S. District Court for Northern California.

She was appointed to the Alameda County Superior Court by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2008. She previously worked in private practice in San Francisco as a real estate and business lawyer.

A native of San Antonio, Texas, Rogers received her undergraduate degree from Princeton University and her law degree from the University of Texas.

Rogers will fill the vacancy created by the departure of U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker, who retired in February. A court spokesman said she is expected to receive her commission to take office shortly.
