Pool Operations to Revert to the City

City Council couldn't come up with the votes Monday to renew a lease with the Swim Club.

Since the facility first opened more than 46 years ago, the Piedmont Swim Club has operated the city pool. Monday night, without the votes to move forward, City Council ended negotiations on a new lease, sending the club packing and directing Recreation Director Mark Delventhal to start gearing up for the city to takeover come July 1.

Lease negotiations, which began when the club made its initial offer in March, had intensified in recent weeks. Rent and the term of the lease had been sticking points all along, but ultimately it was provisions regarding maintenance, insurance, and indemnity for the city that doomed a deal.
