Power Outages Affect Piedmont, Oakland

A series of power outages Tuesday evening left 8,000 or more customers in the dark, PG&E estimates

More than 5,000 PG&E customers in Piedmont and Oakland were still in the dark late Tuesday night after a series of power outages.

The largest number of affected customers was in the 94609 ZIP code, centered in Oakland's Temescal neighborhood, where PG&E did not have a projected time for service restoration at midnight. Smaller numbers of homes and businesses in the 94610, 94618 and other ZIP codes were also affected, and most of those had service restored before midnight, according to PG&E's outage map.

The outages began at various times between 9:12 and 10:40 p.m.

Earlier Tuesday night, PG&E reported a power outage in Oakland that affected 8,081 customers, a utility spokeswoman said. That outage was reported at 8:56 p.m. and service was restored by 9:31 p.m.

The cause of the outages was still being investigated Tuesday night.
