Weekend Things: Soccer, Pancakes and a Big Parade

Check out innovative clothing on Piedmont Avenue, play soccer at Havens Elementary School and parade down Highland Avenue this 4th of July weekend in Piedmont.

FRIDAY, JULY 1


Clothing designer Cari Borja was inspired to create her summer 2011 collection by her internship at Berkeley's famed restaurant Chez Panisse. Lireille, a Piedmont Avenue store typically known for its artful jewelry, is hosting her artist reception and trunk show.

Chabot Space & Science Center kicks off its summer film series with Coral Sea Dreaming—Awaken, a film that explores the wonders of coral reefs. You may have seen documentaries on the colorful and often strange creatures that reside in coral reefs, but this is your chance to see these wonders on the big screen.

SATURDAY, JULY 2


Havens Elementary School will be hosting E-Soccer, a free soccer program geared toward ages 5-18. Kids of all skill levels will feel comfortable in this inclusive program that focuses on leadership and friendship as much as on athleticism. See the for more information on participating.

SUNDAY, JULY 3


Go Dog, Go! is a classic children's book that has been brought to life by the Bay Area Children's Theater for visitors to Children's Fairyland. The shows every Saturday and Sunday give little kids their first taste of live theater.

"Homegrown Spirit" is the theme of the 46th annual 4th of July parade down Highland Avenue. The parade will start on Highland Avenue at Park Way and will have its with a concert by Dave Martin's House Party.
