Fourth Candidate Takes Out Nomination Forms for School Board Election

Amal Smith became the fourth person this week to take out nomination papers for a seat on the Piedmont Unified School District's Board of Education, City Clerk John Tulloch said Friday afternoon.

She joins three other school board hopefuls, Jon Elliott, Doug Ireland and Hari Titan, who picked up their paperwork earlier in the week.

Taking out papers for city council seats earlier this week were Teddy KingTim Rood and incumbent Jeff Wieler.

No candidates had returned papers by the close of business on Friday, Tulloch said.

The official filing period for candidates for the Piedmont City Council and the Piedmont Unified School District's Board of Education opened Monday. The deadline for filing the nomination forms is Nov. 8, 2013.

The municipal election will be held Feb. 4, 2014.

Three council seats are up for grabs in the coming election, as Mayor John Chiang and Councilmember Garrett Keating will "term out" after two four-year terms and Jeff Wieler completes a four-year term.

Piedmont residents will also be electing two people to the Piedmont Unified School District Board of Education.

Incumbents Ray Gadbois and Roy (E. Leroy) Tolles will both complete their second four-year terms in March of 2014 and are not eligible for reelection.
