Free! Award-winning film, "Christmas in the Clouds" -- Oprah's "must-see" Holiday Film -- at Piedmont Center for the Arts

On Saturday, December

7 at 5:30 pm, the Piedmont Center for the Arts inaugurates its new state-of-the-art

projection system with a free family showing of “Christmas in the Clouds,” an award-winning, feature-length film written, directed and produced by Piedmont resident Kate Montgomery.

This full-length film was featured at Sundance and also took top prizes at festivals in Austin and Santa Fe, and Oprah
designated it her “must see” holiday film when it was released in 2005.  Shot at the Sundance Resort in Utah and

featuring a mostly Native American cast, it is a stereotype-busting charmer

about Native Americans in a lighthearted tale of mistaken identity and would-be

romance. It’s a guilt-free trip to Indian Country that strives to break down

the stereotypes that still persist about contemporary Native Americans.

“So much of what we see on screen is either
set in the past or, if it’s a contemporary story, is focused on the problems,”
said director/writer/ producer Montgomery. “ This one celebrates the good
things that are also happening, and the sense of humor that runs through
everything.“

When it was released in 2005, Roger Ebert hailed "Christmas in the

Clouds" as "part romantic comedy and part historic breakthrough"

and Oprah made it her "Must See" holiday film.

Rated PG for somewhat mature themes.  (No violence, no profanity, nothing explicit.)
