Piedmont Scouts' Tree Lot Opens Saturday

From a Piedmont Boy Scouts press release

One of Piedmont’s most enduring family traditions continues  with the opening of the Scout Tree Lot on Saturday, November 30th at 9 AM.  An east bay tradition for 47 years, the lot boasts a great selection of high quality trees, garlands and wreaths and is staffed by enthusiastic Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers and adult volunteers.

Started as a small holiday tree lot in 1966, the yearly fund raiser has grown into a family and scouting tradition with scouts and volunteers organizing, managing and delivering trees. Cubs, Boy Scouts and Venturers assist supporters in selecting trees and loading them onto motor vehicles. Home delivery is also available.

John Stewart, adult coordinator of the Tree Lot said "the tree lot provides important lessons to Scouts, such as responsibility, showing up on time and enthusiasm - corny, but that's what we call scout spirit. Our kids also learn about getting along with people - in this case the customer - teamwork, working towards the same goal and having fun with what they're doing.”

Over the years, multiple family generations have enjoyed picking out the family tree and volunteering at the tree lot. Adult volunteer Rod Brown commented that "the lot is about community service, history and wonderful recollections of that distinctive pine smell from my years of childhood."

An impressive array of trees and other merchandise are available including:

• Noble Firs, Douglas Firs and hard-to-find Silvertips,

• Wreaths and garlands, and

• Tree stands and netting

Proceeds from the tree lot generate a significant portion of the operating budget of the Piedmont Council of Boy Scouts, supporting youth activities year-round in the community.  The public is invited to bring the whole family for some fun in selecting a fresh tree. The Piedmont Scout Council appreciates your support and wishes your family a wonderful holiday season!
