Mayor John Chiang started his bicycle commute at City Hall at 7:15, visiting the energizer station en route to the Grand Lake Theatre, where he joined a "pedal pool" of cyclists heading for downtown Oakland. Teachers John White and Ted Scherman stopped by on their way to Piedmont Middle School. Piedmont city Counci member Garrett Keating arrived by bike, Vice Mayor Margaret Fujioka on foot.
