Piedmont-Oakland Death Notices

Some of the people with ties to Piedmont and Oakland who passed away recently

Daniel Murphy Jr.: A resident of Moraga, Murphy was raised in Piedmont. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a graduate of U.C. Berkeley. He was an insurance broker and owned the D. M. Diversified brokerage. Murphy enjoyed playing golf at the Moraga Country Club. He died on June 29 at the age of 87.

Searle Garth Colson: A resident of Oakland, Colson was a fourth generation Californian whose ancestors settled in Oakland in 1851. Colson graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1946. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a graduate of Armstrong College. He died June 21 at the age of 85.

Margaret Lawrence: A resident of Oakland, Lawrence was a German Holocaust survivor. She worked for 23 years at the Oakland Kaiser Medical Center. She was also a gifted piano player. Lawrence died on July 3 at the age of 96.

Manuela Cardenas: A resident of Newark, Cardenas lived most of her life in Oakland. She worked as a bilingual interpreter/campus supervisor at Roosevelt Junior High in Oakland for 26 years. Cardenas died on June 26 at the age of 83.
