An unknown author once wrote, "Any man can be a father. It takes someone special to be a dad."
As I've walked the tightrope of a couple of decades as a dad, I find myself wondering what little moments will stick in my daughters' memories the way these stick in mine:
- Dad's patience in teaching me to drive as I tried to wrestle the steering wheel of that huge Chevy Impala on a back country road.
- Dad's bonhomie as he greeted friends, dear and obscure, to the funeral of his dad.
- Dad giving me a knuckle burn on my brushcut when I was 5 or 6. It was a knuckle sign of affection.
