West Oakland cannot risk the health and wellbeing of its children and families!!

Once again the Oakland City Council is putting the quality of life for West Oakland residents at risk by considering California Waste Solutions’ garbage proposal that will expand their 10thstreet facility, generating potentially hundreds of new garbage truck traffic and increased air pollution for an indefinite amount of time.

The Oakland City Council will make this decision this summer!

California Waste Solutions has promised West Oakland that it is relocating its operations to the Oakland Army Base – something that everyone supports – but there is still no timeframe for that to happen. In the meantime, the company is proposing to expand its “Materials Recovery Facilities” or MRF on 10th Street and Wood Street.

West Oakland cannot risk the health and wellbeing of its children and families based on the promise of another corporation or politician that things will get better!  

We need to Clean West Oakland Now!

That means neighbors and community leaders saying, “NO” to any increase in diesel truck traffic on West Oakland streets. We need to say “NO” to any proposal that increases air, noise, and sound pollution.

The social and environmental injustice against West Oakland has gone on for too long. Together we can take action to stop another proposal that harms this community.

Please contact Oakland City Councilwoman Lynette Gibson-McElhaney and Councilman Dan Kalb before the next council meeting on Tuesday, June 17th. Tell them that you oppose California Waste Solutions’ proposal to expand its West Oakland operations! Tell them we need a Clean West Oakland Now.
