49er Season Tickets Swiped; One Trash-Talking Trucker Punches Another

Incidents reported to Piedmont PD Aug. 1-7. Information was supplied by the police department and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, AUG. 1

Tree Fouled – At 12:07 p.m., a man from the 1400 block of Grand Avenue reported that a neighbor had chopped down a tree on his property.

Trucker Arrested for Assault – At 12:10 p.m., police arrested a 33-year-old Vallejo man on suspicion of punching another man in the head on the 300 block of Wildwood Avenue. The two men were truck drivers who were “trash talking” when the battery occurred.

Home Burglarized – At 5:05 p.m., a man from the first block of Arbor Drive reported that electronics and jewelry had been taken from his home sometime between 2:30 and 4:45 p.m. The resident had returned home to find broken glass outside a side door. 

TUESDAY, AUG. 2

Skateboarders Reported – At 3:47 p.m., three or four juveniles were reportedly skateboarding at a high rate of speed near the intersection of Mountain and Dormidera avenues. In a separate incident, at 6:18 p.m. a resident called police about skateboarders on the grounds of Wildwood Elementary School.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 3

Auto Thieves Arrested – A man and woman were arrested in San Leandro at around 12:32 p.m. on suspicion of stealing a vehicle from St. James Drive in Piedmont on July 29. Police arrested Jamie Davies, a 19-year-old female transient, who was behind the wheel, and Ricardo Alvarez, a 43-year-old Oakland man, who was a passenger in the vehicle. The pair is accused of stealing the vehicle a few days after the owner’s home was burglarized.

Kids Start Bonfire at PMS – At 8:28 p.m., it was reported that a couple of children were lighting items on fire and setting up a bonfire at Piedmont Middle School. The children ran off but left a backpack behind.

Garage Broken Into – At 11:33 p.m., a caller reported that someone had broken into a garage on the first block of Pacific Avenue. The suspect was last seen on foot on Scenic Avenue.

THURSDAY, AUG. 4

Tools Stolen From Truck – Tools were lifted from a pick-up truck parked on Wildwood Gardens, according to a report made at 8:51 a.m.

BB Shatters Window – A window was shot out with a BB gun on the 300 block of Wildwood Avenue, according to a report made at 1:52 p.m.

FRIDAY, AUG. 5

Home Break-in Attempted – At 8:56 a.m., a woman from the 200 block of Sea View Avenue reported that someone had attempted to enter her home through a bathroom window. A garbage can had been turned upside down under the window, and the window shades were in disarray, she said.

Bus Crashes – At 1:50 p.m., an AC Transit bus was involved in an accident on Highland Avenue. No injuries were reported.

Firework Hurled – A teenager reportedly chucked a firework at a vehicle on the 100 block of Park Avenue at 7:13 p.m.

SATURDAY, AUG. 6

Vehicle Egged – At 12:06 a.m., it was reported that a vehicle on the first block of Piedmont Court had just been pelted with eggs about five minutes earlier. No one was seen committing the vandalism.

Teen Party Dispersed – A party on the 800 block of Blair Avenue was broken up at around 10:08 p.m. Police arrived after 20 juveniles were reported to be running to the home and another juvenile was reported to be ducking behind cars.

SUNDAY, AUG. 7

Drunk Drivers Arrested – At 2:03 a.m., police arrested a 49-year-old Oakland man on suspicion of driving under the influence near the intersection of Arroyo and Grand avenues. In a separate incident, at 9:28 p.m., police arrested a 31-year-old Oakland man on suspicion of driving under the influence at 9:28 p.m. at Piedmont Avenue and West MacArthur Boulevard.

Thief Scores 49s Season Tickets – At 11:56 a.m., a resident reported that his unlocked vehicle had been rifled through the previous night while parked on the first block of Lorita Avenue. The thief had gotten away with a briefcase containing two 49er season tickets.
