All-Clear at Holy Names U. After Police Search

Hundreds of students and faculty were evacuated from the Mountain Boulevard campus Thursday while police searched school buildings in response to a report of an armed man

Bay City News Service—The all-clear has been given at Oakland's Holy Names University this afternoon after someone reported seeing an armed person on campus earlier today, university officials said.

A message posted on the school's website shortly after 2 p.m. stated that "HNU has received notice from the Oakland Police Department that the campus is secure and no longer under lockdown."

Hundreds of students and faculty members were evacuated from the campus, located at 3500 Mountain Blvd., after someone called police at 10:30 a.m. to report a "disheveled" male dressed in a business suit with a gun in his waistband who had asked to use a restroom in a school building, Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.

Officers searched about 20 buildings on campus, Watson said.
