Two men were arrested Monday after three people were robbed at gunpoint in Piedmont at lunchtime, Police Chief Rikki Goede said in a press release Monday evening.

Terrance Garrett and Jamoni Pullum, both 19 years old, were taken into custody after after a vehicle and foot chase that ended on Santa Clara Avenue near the I-580 on-ramp.

The victims were robbed while walking on the sidewalk in the 1500 block of Grand Avenue about 12:11 p.m., Goede said. That's between Greenbank and Oakland avenues.

"Piedmont Officers Tom Kincaid and Joe Garcia responded to the initial call and spotted the suspects as they were getting into a vehicle," Goede said.

"The suspects refused the officers’ orders to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued. Other Piedmont officers responded to assist."

The getaway vehicle crashed as it attempted to turn onto the freeway and then caught fire, Goede said.

The two men in the vehicle fled on foot, she said.

"A brief foot pursuit ensued where Officers Garcia and DeWarns apprehended Suspect Garrett, and Officers Leong and Kincaid apprehended Suspect Pullum," Goede said. "Officer George Tucker and Sergeant Mike Munoz assisted in the apprehensions."

Goede said police recovered items that linked the suspects to the robbery and also recovered a firearm.

Garrett and Pullum were booked into a county jail facility, she said. Both could face charges of three counts of robbery and three counts of using a firearm during the commission of a robbery.

Oakland police assisted with the accident investigation, collection of evidence and security at the crash scene, Goede said.

Piedmont and Oakland investigators are following up to see if the suspects are responsible for other similar armed robberies that have occurred in the area, she said.

Anyone with information or inquiries related to this case can contact Detective George Phifer or Detective Bob Coffey of the Piedmont Police Department at (510) 420-3010.
