Car Plunges Off I-580 Near Hwy. 13 Junction

Four people have been reported injured

Bay City News--A car plunged off an embankment on eastbound Interstate Highway 580 this morning just east of state Highway 13 in Oakland, officials said.

The crash happened at around 5:40 a.m. The California Highway Patrol and the Oakland Fire Department have responded to the collision.

One person was trapped inside the car but has since been freed, an Oakland fire dispatcher said. Four people were injured but the extent of their injuries and how many had been transported to the hospital was not immediately available, a fire dispatcher said.

The Seminary Avenue onramp to eastbound I-580 has been shut down while officials clean up the crash, CHP officials said.

CHP has requested a towing service and 50 feet of cable to come to the scene.
