Update, 10:35am Wednesday, more details from CHP.

Two people were transported to the hospital with major injuries after a big rig lost a trailer and five other vehicles collided with the trailer Wednesday morning on Highway 24 eastbound in Orinda, California Highway Patrol reported.

Three lanes of traffic have reopened following the collisions, located near the Caldecott Tunnel in Orinda, were reported at 6:08 a.m. near Wilder Road, said CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett.

All lanes eastbound were blocked for more than an hour, backing up traffic to the Caldecott Tunnel, Bartlett said.

A Patch reader said there was a subsequent auto accident in the westbound lanes in the same area, so the commute in both directions was nasty.
