A home was destroyed in a one-alarm fire in East Oakland early this morning, a fire battalion chief said.
The house fire was reported in the 600 block of El Paseo Drive at about 1:35 a.m., Oakland fire officials said.
Firefighters arrived and found flames coming out of every window and the front door of the one-story single-family home, fire Battalion Chief Geoff Hunter said. The 21 firefighters who responded managed to get the fire under control at about 2:05 a.m., Hunter said.
Hunter said that no one was home at the time of the fire. Firefighters spoke to the home's owner, who said he lives there sometimes, but was not there when the fire started. The house is a total loss.
Hunter estimated the damage at $250,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
