Home Invasion on St. James — Possibly Burglary Gone Wrong

Two men who broke into a Piedmont home Thursday evening, May 16, may have thought the darkened house was unoccupied when they pried open a window to gain entry — but instead they surprised the early-to-bed residents, according to Piedmont police.

PPD Sgt. Catherine Carr said Saturday that the break-in in the 200 block of St. James Drive was reported to police at 9:16 p.m. Thursday. No weapons were seen and no one was injured, she said. The intruders took electronics and a wallet, she said.

The one intruder seen by the victims was an African American male about 20 to 25 years old, 5'10" to 5'11" tall and weighing 140 to 160 pounds, Carr said.

She said a similar break-in was reported in Oakland within an hour of the Piedmont incident, and Piedmont and Oakland police are cooperating in the investigation.
